The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested a hit-and-run driver, identified as Damilola Bickerstteth, who allegedly crushed a man to death on New Year Day.
It was gathered that Bickerstteth allegedly hit the deceased, identified as Ahmed Adebayo, around 5am in Aguda, Surulere.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Bickerstteth, in a bid to escape when he discovered the gravity of what had happened, rammed his car into an electric pole.
It was gathered that when Bickerstteth’s car got stuck, he got out and escaped, leaving the vehicle at the scene.
Our correspondent learnt that a policewoman, identified as Idowu, retrieved the car documents and key, while the deceased’s corpse was deposited in a morgue.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP, Chike Oti, said Bickerstteth was arrested in his hideout in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
He stated, “The family of the victim has come to identify the deceased and made a statement to the police.
“The suspect, in a bid to escape, ran into an electric pole, which destabilised his vehicle, and he ran away, leaving his vehicle on the spot. An investigation was carried out by traffic officers attached to the Aguda Police Station, and he was arrested in a remote village in Ikorodu. Our operatives were able to locate him using the number plate of the vehicle.”
